Demolition in Monroe County

Every type of demolition, any size

A damaged stilt house on a canal and a commercial building on US 1 have different problems and one thing in common: the access, the permit office and the debris route are settled before the first cut. Choose the nearest match, or phone and describe the job.

From first call to final

One routine for every size of job

  1. Send the address and the scope

Phone us or fill in the quote form. Say which key it is on, what must come down and what must stay.

  2. A visit to the lot

Someone from Romco goes to the property. The building, the flood zone, the utility connections, the way equipment and trucks get in, and the neighboring lots all get a look.

  3. The written quote

You get a document listing what comes out, what is kept safe, and what is trucked north off the island chain. Anything that hangs on survey results is marked as such.

  4. Paperwork before machines

If asbestos testing applies, it happens here. So do the utility shutoffs and the filing of your demolition permit with whichever office covers the parcel.

  5. Demolition and haul-off

The crew works through the agreed order. Debris is trucked to permitted facilities, and we keep the load records.

  6. Final inspection

The permit office signs off after its last inspection. You are left with a cleared lot, or the shell you specified.

Questions

Quick answers

Is there a minimum or maximum size of job?

No. A shed, a pool, a slab or one interior wall gets a quote, and so does an entire building, whether the work is selective or structural. Describe what is standing and what has to stay, and we price that scope.

Do I need a permit to demolish a building in the Keys?

Almost always, for anything structural. Which office issues it depends on the key. Key West, Marathon, Islamorada and Key Colony Beach run their own building departments, and Monroe County handles most of the rest. Once you hire Romco, the application is ours to assemble and file, and so is the inspection calendar up to the final sign-off. Check what your parcel's office requires, because lists differ.

How is asbestos handled before a demolition?

An independent licensed consultant surveys the building first, because the federal asbestos rule calls for a thorough inspection before a regulated demolition and the state notice depends on it. Should the survey turn up asbestos that the job would disturb, a separately licensed abatement firm takes it out. Romco books and sequences both visits, but abatement is not work we perform.
